Aviation English Language Proficiency (AELP): A minimum of 30 hours of AELP training from a DGCA approved institution is required. This training focuses on aviation specific communication skills.
AELP Testing: After training candidates must undergo an AELP test to assess their proficiency level. A minimum of Level 4 is typically required to commence flight training.

Overcoming Language Challenges

For candidates whose first language is not English, the following steps can help overcome potential barriers:

Enroll in AELP Training: Participate in structured AELP programs to enhance aviation-specific English skills.
Regular Practice: Engage in daily reading, writing, and speaking exercises in English to build confidence and proficiency.
Simulate Real-Life Scenarios: Practice communication in simulated flight scenarios to become accustomed to the language used in aviation contexts.

While English proficiency is a requirement for pilot training in India it is not an insurmountable barrier. With dedicated preparation and the resources available through programs like AELP non-native English speakers can meet the necessary standards and pursue a successful career in aviation.
