The aviation sector in India is expanding very fast. Airlines have placed massive orders around 1,700 new aircraft which will need many more pilots to fly. More people are traveling by air than ever before: both domestic and international flight demand continues to climb. This makes airlines increase their flights and open new routes pushing up pilot demand. Regional connectivity is also growing smaller cities and towns are getting connected via air and new airports/air strips are coming up offering fresh opportunities for pilots beyond big city airlines. Because many senior pilots are retiring or moving abroad there's a steady outflow of experienced pilots which increases demand for new younger pilots.
Just having a basic pilot license (CPL/PPL) may not be enough. Many airlines now prefer pilots who are type rated (for example for A320 or B737) and ready for commercial flying right away. Without this even fresh pilots may struggle to get hired.
While demand is rising, there is a shortage of experienced pilots or captains which affects senior level opportunities. That limits promotion potential in the early years for many.
Growth depends not only on airlines but also on how quickly new airports/airstrips get built and regional connectivity improves. Delays or regulatory / infrastructure issues could slow down the demand growth.
Newly licensed pilots often lack real world readiness e.g. simulator experience multi crew training (MCC/CRM) and actual type rating. Many airlines prefer those who can join operations immediately. This makes the competition steep even when demand is high.
