To become a professional pilot there are several qualifications which students have to meet like academic, physical and regulatory qualifications etc. Below is explained some of these:
- Educational Qualification:
- Students must have passed 10+2 (or equivalent) with PCM from a recognized board.
- If you didn't have these subjects you can qualify them later through NIOS or any other recognized board.
- Age Requirement:
- Minimum age: 17 years for a Student Pilot Licence (SPL) or Private Pilot Licence (PPL).
- Minimum age: 18 years for a Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL).
- Medical Fitness:
- Must pass DGCA Class 1 medical examination conducted by a DGCA-approved medical examiner.
- This ensures good eyesight, hearing and overall physical and mental fitness.
- Language Proficiency:
- Must be fluent in English as it is the international language of aviation communication.
- Training Requirement:
- Must completed flying training from a DGCA-approved FTO in India or abroad.
- Students have to complete a min 200 hours flying.
- Examinations:
- DGCA conducts theoretical exams covering subjects like Air Regulations, Navigation, Meteorology and Aircraft Technical Knowledge.
- Licence Issuance:
- After successfully completing of training and exams, DGCA issues the CPL allowing them to fly as professional pilots.
