The cost of becoming a pilot in India generally ranges from Rs 45 lakh to 50 lakh. The fee structure depend on various factors like flying school, type of aircraft used during training and location of training etc. Pilot training cost includes ground classes, flying training, DGCA exams and study materials etc.

To get a Commercial Pilot License (CPL) students have to complete at least 200 hours of flying training, with an average cost of Rs 12,000- 20,000 per hour.

Below is given a detailed cost breakdown:

  • Ground Classes: Rs 3 lakh - 5 lakh
  • Flying Training (200 hours): Rs 40 lakh - 50 lakh
  • Medical Tests and DGCA Exams: Rs 1 lakh - 2 lakh
  • Uniforms, Books & Equipment: Rs 50,000 - 1 lakh
  • License Fees & Documentation: Rs 50,000 - 1 lakh

Some students may choose to study in foreign countries (such as USA, Canada or South Africa) where the price of training is between RS 60 lakh and RS 70 lakh although the training will provide quicker learning and international exposure.

After earning the CPL, pilots must undergo Type Rating on specific aircraft such as the Airbus A320 or Boeing 737, which costs an additional Rs 15 lakh - 25 lakh.
