A Class 2 Medical examination is the first step for aspiring pilots. It ensures the candidate is healthy and capable of handling flying duties safely. The tests generally include eyesight checks (near distant and color vision) hearing tests ECG (heart health) chest X-ray (lungs) blood pressure, urine test, and blood tests. These help doctors identify any issues like diabetes, hypertension heart problems, or vision defects that could affect flying ability.
In addition the doctor also evaluates mental and physical fitness by conducting general health and neurological checks. Balance reflexes and medical history are reviewed carefully. If the candidate is declared fit, the DGCA issues the Class 2 Medical certificate which is mandatory before applying for a Student Pilot License (SPL). This medical fitness check ensures that safety standards are met and only medically fit individuals enter pilot training.
