The RTR (Radio Telephony Restricted) test is administered on centers approved by the DGCA India which are also recognized pilot training centers. This exam is a compulsory examination to every budding pilot who intends to fly a plane and effectively communicate with Air Traffic Control (ATC). The exam is normally scheduled in the training school where the student happens to be undergoing his pilot license course like a Commercial Pilot License (CPL) or a Private Pilot License (PPL). This exam guarantees that candidates possess the required knowledge of aviation communication processes such as the use of standard phraseology, emergency procedures, and radio communication regulations that are an essential part of safe flight.
The RTR exam is generally structured and it has both a written and a practical element. The written part of the exam tests the knowledge of aviation language knowledge along with methods of communicating with the ATC and the interpretation of signals. The practical assessment tests their skill in handling radio communications and communicating properly within a real-time situation to the air traffic control. The passing of this exam is critical to the pilot eligibility as according to it, the candidate can safely and successfully communicate within a strictly regulated airspace environment which is a key requirement of any professional pilot.
