  • Educational Qualification: A minimum of a 10th grade education is required. Recent discussions have suggested that candidates from arts and commerce backgrounds may also be considered eligible though this is subject to regulatory changes.

  • Health Standards: Candidates must be free from any medical conditions that could impair their ability to safely operate an aircraft. This includes assessments of vision, hearing, cardiovascular health, and general physical and psychological fitness.

Application Process:

  1. Obtain a Class 2 Medical Certificate: Before applying for a Class 1 Medical Certificate, candidates must first secure a Class 2 Medical Certificate, which serves as a prerequisite.

  2. Schedule an Examination: Book an appointment with a DGCA approved medical examiner through the eGCA portal.

  3. Undergo Medical Tests: The examination includes a comprehensive evaluation covering vision, hearing, ECG, blood and urine tests, and a general physical and psychological assessment.

  4. Receive Certification: If deemed medically fit the DGCA will issue a Class 1 Medical Certificate which is valid for 12 months for individuals under 40 years of age and 6 months for those over 40.

Securing a Class 1 Medical Certificate is a crucial step for anyone aiming to become a commercial pilot. It ensures that pilots are physically and mentally capable of handling the responsibilities associated with aviation safety.
