You can start the CPL aviation course right after completing 12th standard with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM). This is the basic academic requirement for becoming a commercial pilot in India. Students who have passed 12th with PCM or have completed PCM through NIOS or as additional subjects can also join CPL aviation training.
To begin the CPL aviation journey you must be 17 years old. However, you will receive the final Commercial Pilot Licence only when you turn 18 years old as per aviation rules. Many students begin preparation at 16-17 years by applying for DGCA medical and written exams so they can start flying training immediately after completing 12th.
Before joining any flying school you must clear DGCA Class 2 Medical and later Class 1 Medical. This ensures you are medically fit for flying. Most students start medical exams during 11th or 12th so that there is no delay in starting the CPL aviation course.
10th & 12th mark sheets with PCM
Aadhaar or passport
DGCA medical fitness certificate
Police verification (some schools ask later)
The best time to start CPL aviation training is immediately after 12th as early preparation helps you finish exams medicals and flight hours faster. Many Indian flying schools allow admission as soon as you meet the minimum criteria and training fees usually range from INR 35,00,000 to INR 55,00,000 depending on hours and location.
